KALEIDOSCOPEAs a child, kaleidoscope used to fascinate us. Kaleidoscope is an optical instrument in a cylindrical shape consisting of bits of colorful bangles, beads, mirrors, and other like materials that configure geometric patterns. Each time when we rotate the kaleidoscope, a new symmetrical design gets formed. But what if someone's life happens to be like this? Each time when you view a different pattern gets formed. Life is exactly like a Kaleidoscope. Each person has a different perspective. Everyone grows up with their individuality, but not everyone can determine their self individuality. Worldwide annually, approximately 130 million babies are born either as male or female. However, there is also 1 in 2000 babies born, an intersex person. Hermaphrodite is a generic term used to describe a person born with male and female genitalia. Indian society is unaware of such a condition. Therefore an intersex person is often not accepted and eventually outcasted from the community. This story is about an intersex person. Kanak is, born in a wealthy and reputed Nimbalkar family in Kolhapur.
